Legend has it that there was a fair in mediaeval times, held in the village centre., which died out in the 14th century.
It was revived, as a midsummer fair in 1993 and has been held, ever since, on the nearest Sunday to June 21st.
It is,therefore, fitting that our headline event is a major battle re-enactment by the
the premier re-enactment society in the UK. They will be in the village all weekend with cameo performances and an authentic encampment culminating in a pitched battle on Sunday afternoon.
